Matt Thomas, Technical Director, Footie Camp
We are so lucky to have Matt Thomas join us for camp this year! Matt will be coming to us from Calgary, but Canada is the eighth country he has lived in! On his way to Edmonton he has acquired some of the most prestigious football qualifications in the world – he holds a UEFA A License, an U.S.A. A License, as well as several youth-specific licenses. He is a master facilitator with the Canada Soccer Association and continues to educate coaches across the country, in addition to his active coaching career.
Matt believes that football success begins with a welcoming, supportive environment. From coaches to players, when people feel supported to try new things and leave the pitch smiling – that is the hallmark of a successful session. He loves the underdog and loves to challenge kiddos with tough drills and support them on their way to figuring it out. Matt knows that football has to be fun, and will make sure everyone from the beginners to the more advanced players get what they need to advance their skills this summer!
Sarah Forand, Coordinator, Footie Camp
For those of you who don’t know Sarah, she is the returning Coordinator for Footie Camp. This will be her second year at the helm, but outside of camp, she is a student at the University of Alberta in her third year of BSc in Kinesiology. In her spare time, she likes to go for runs, go to the gym, be with friends, and play soccer! Sarah have played soccer since she was 4, and in high school she played for a Tier 1 team in Edmonton. Injury led to an early end to her soccer career, so she just plays for fun now.
She has also had extensive involvement in summer camps prior to Footie Camp. Sarah worked and volunteered at Camp Nakamun for three years before coming to Footie Camp, and have volunteered at other day camps as well. This is where she discovered how awesome kids are, and that they are lots of fun to work with!

Tim Adams, Executive Director, Footie Camp
Founder, Free Footie
Tim Adams cares a lot about soccer, but even more about kids. What started as a small volunteer effort to get one team of kids out on the field seven years ago, has blown up into Free Footie: a league that enables 1,300 of Edmonton’s most needy kids to play soccer for free. He organizes equipment, coaching, training, transportation, facilities, schedules, fundraising—it takes a lot of money for kids to play soccer. Tim is the organizing force of Footie Camp. He wanted to create a high calibre camp that benefits everyone. Your kids get an awesome camp and a chance to meet inspiring mentors. Meanwhile, all the revenue generated from the camps goes to ensuring his kids, as he calls them, are always free to play. When asked what he wants your kids to get out of this camp, he said this: “I was not a naturally gifted athlete when I was a kid. I practiced for hours in the back yard, every day, but I was never the standout player. I was always a little nervous. Once in a while, I’d break through the nerves, and have the game of my life. In those moments, I’d wonder, “What did I do different?” I know the answer today: I had fun. There are a lot of kids out there, just like me. I want this camp to teach kids that practicing and having fun is all it takes.
